"Estate Law 2.0" Event Recap
Thank you to everyone who came out last night to Estate Law 2.0, our joint CPD event with LexisNexis Canada.
Dan Nelson of Civis Law LLP gave an engaging talk about digital legacies and estates. He discussed the legal issues that arise when an estate trustee needs to handle a deceased individual's online accounts (everything from Facebook to Ashley Madison). What rights does an executor have to access the content of the deceased's social media accounts? And what rights do tech companies have to delete this content?
After Dan's discussion I gave a talk on the rise of online notice, overviewing how NoticeConnect has made publishing notices to creditors online the standard practice in Ontario. Here at NoticeConnect we're looking forward to tackling many more notices and jurisdictions. Beth Virtue closed the evening with a discussion about the modern workflow management tools offered by LexisNexis.
